What it's for
Announcements are short messages to every member of the band – a new rule, a changed rehearsal room, a reminder to send your invoices. Every member gets a notification, can confirm they have read it with Got it, and the poster sees who has and who hasn't. Questions about one particular gig belong in that event's discussion instead.
When to use it
- Something concerns the whole band, not just one event.
- You need to be sure everyone has read an important message.
- Information should stay visible at the top for a long time, for example the new rehearsal room address.
How to
Permissions and limits
- Every band member can read announcements and select Got it.
- Posting, pinning and unpinning needs the Post announcements permission (Band Admin and Band Manager by default).
- An announcement can be deleted by its author and by anyone with Post announcements.
- A posted announcement can't be edited. If it has a mistake, delete it and post it again – note that members are notified again.
Examples
The rehearsal room moves
Post an announcement with the title "New rehearsal room", the address and how to get in, and turn on Pin. Unpin it after a few weeks, once everyone knows the way.
Everyone must send their invoice
Post the request and ask everyone to select Got it once they've sent it. A week later, check Not yet and remind those people directly.
Common mistakes
- Using an announcement for a question about one gig. Write in that event's discussion, so the answer stays with the event – see Events.
- Pinning too much. If everything is pinned, nothing stands out – unpin old news.
- Expecting Got it to mean the member agrees. It only confirms that they have read the announcement.
Troubleshooting
- An older announcement has disappeared.
- It was archived after 90 days. Turn on Show archived.
- A member says they didn't get an email about the announcement.
- Each member chooses in their notification settings whether announcements come by email or push. Ask them to check Announcements in Notification settings and their spam folder.
