Notifications

Announcements & notifications · See what's new under the bell, and choose which updates reach you in the app, by email or as push notifications on your phone.

What it's for

Pulse tells you when something concerns you: a new gig or rehearsal, a changed time or venue, a reminder to give your availability, being added to a lineup, or a new announcement. Every update can reach you in three ways – in the app (the bell), by email and as a push notification on your phone or computer – and you decide which, for each kind of update.

When to use it

  • You want to check what has changed since you last looked.
  • You get too many emails – or miss important updates.
  • You want gig updates to pop up on your phone like messages from other apps.
  • Your emails from Pulse arrive in the wrong language.

How to

Read your notifications

  1. Select the bell at the top of the screen. The red number shows how many are unread.
  2. Unread notifications have a dot and bold text. Select one to open the page it is about – it is then marked as read.
  3. Turn on Unread only to hide what you've already seen, or select Mark all as read.

Result: The count on the bell goes down. While Pulse is open, new notifications also pop up briefly at the bottom of the screen. Notifications from all your bands are shown together, with the band name.

Choose what you get and where

  1. Open your account menu (your name or picture) and select Notification settings, or select Notification settings on the notifications page.
  2. Each row is one kind of update, for example New events, Event changes, Availability reminders, Lineup or Announcements.
  3. For each row, turn the switches In app, Email and Push on or off.

Result: Each change is saved immediately ("Preferences saved") and applies to all your bands. By default you get everything in the app; email for new events, availability reminders, lineup and announcements; and push for those plus event changes.

Turn on push notifications on a device

You need: The phone, tablet or computer where you want the notifications, with Pulse open in the browser (on iPhone and iPad, first add Pulse to the home screen – see the next section).

  1. On that device, open Notification settings.
  2. Under Notifications on this device, select Turn on notifications.
  3. When the browser or phone asks, allow notifications.
  4. Select Send a test – a test notification should arrive within a minute or so.

Result: The card says On for this device. Push works per device: repeat this on every phone or computer where you want notifications. Turn off stops them on this device only.

Push notifications on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Pulse in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap Share (the square with an arrow) and choose Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open Pulse from the new icon on your home screen – not from Safari.
  4. Go to Notification settings and turn on notifications as described above.

Result: Pulse works like an app on your phone and can show notifications on the lock screen. If you open Pulse in Safari instead, the settings show the steps to add it to the home screen.

Change the language of emails

  1. Open your profile.
  2. Choose your Language and save.

Result: Emails and notifications from Pulse are written in your language, whoever triggered them. Dates and times use your regional format: an event shows its own local time, and if you live in a different time zone, your time is added in brackets. Texts that people write themselves, such as announcements, stay as they were written.

Permissions and limits

  • Your notification settings are personal – nobody else can see or change them, and they apply to all your bands.
  • Some updates go only to the people they concern – for example, availability reminders go only to members who haven't responded yet, and lineup notifications only to the person added.
  • Push reaches only devices where you turned on notifications. Notifications under the bell are kept for 180 days.

Examples

Fewer emails, nothing missed

Turn on push on your phone, then turn off Email for the rows you also get by push. Keep Email for Announcements if you like a record in your inbox.

A manager in several bands

All bands' updates come to one bell with the band name on each. Use Unread only to work through them, and Mark all as read when you're done.

Common mistakes

  • Turning off In app for a category – then those updates don't appear under the bell at all.
  • Turning on push on a computer and expecting it on your phone. Each device has to be turned on separately.
  • On iPhone, opening Pulse in Safari instead of from the home screen icon – push can't be turned on there.
  • Blocking notifications when the browser first asks. You then have to allow them in the browser or phone settings.

Troubleshooting

"Notifications are blocked for Pulse in this browser."
You (or the phone) declined notifications earlier. Allow them for Pulse in the browser's site settings or in the phone's notification settings, then reload the page and select Turn on notifications.
"This browser can't show notifications."
Try another browser, such as Chrome, Firefox or Safari. On iPhone, add Pulse to the home screen first.
Push is on, but nothing arrives.
Select Send a test. If the test doesn't arrive, check that the phone isn't in Do Not Disturb or focus mode and that notifications for the browser (or the Pulse icon) are allowed. Also check that Push is on for that row in the settings.
I don't get emails.
Check that Email is turned on for that row, and look in your spam folder. Emails go to the address you sign in with.
Emails come in the wrong language.
They use the Language in your profile. Change it there and save – see Language & appearance.
