Getting started

Getting started · Sign in for the first time, join your band and find your way around Pulse.

What it's for

Pulse keeps your band's gigs, rehearsals, songs, setlists and announcements in one place. This article shows how to get in and where to find things: the menu on the left, search, notifications, your account menu and help.

When to use it

  • You received an invitation and are opening Pulse for the first time.
  • You are not sure where something is in the app.
  • You want Pulse on your phone's home screen like an app.

How to

Sign in for the first time

You need: The invitation from your band, sent to your email address or shared as a link.

  1. Open the invitation link. You see You're invited with the band's name and your role.
  2. Select Sign in to accept.
  3. Enter your Email – the same address the invitation was sent to – and select Email me a sign-in link.
  4. Open the email and click the link, then select Sign in on the page that opens. If you read the email on another device, type the code from the email into Or enter the code from the email on the sign-in page instead.
  5. Back on the invitation, select Accept invitation.

Result: You are a member of the band and its Dashboard opens. More about invitations in Invitations.

Sign in next time

  1. Open Pulse and enter your Email, then select Email me a sign-in link – or select Sign in with a passkey if you have set one up.
  2. To sign in faster next time, add a passkey: account menu → Sign-in & security → Add a passkey. It uses your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of an email.

Result: Pulse opens the band you used last. Details about passkeys and sign-in methods are in Signing in.

Find your way around

  1. The menu on the left lists the band's sections: Dashboard, Events, Event planning, Songs, Setlists, Announcements, Members and Statistics. You only see the sections your role allows. Admins also see Finances and Settings under Admin.
  2. On a phone, tap the menu button at the top left to open the menu. On a computer, the same button makes the menu narrow or wide.
  3. At the top of the menu is the band switcher. If you are in more than one band, select it and choose the band under Switch band.
  4. Under Quick filters, the numbers show what is waiting for you: Waiting for my answer (events you haven't answered yet), My events (events where you play, help as crew, or said you are coming), Open polls (date polls you still have to answer) and, for those who see the band's finances, Unpaid gigs.
  5. Help at the bottom of the menu opens all help articles.

Search, notifications, help and your account

  1. Select Search or run a command… at the top, or press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows, Linux). Type part of an event, venue, song or person to jump there, or choose a command such as New event, Invite a member or a section under Go to.
  2. The bell opens Notifications. The red number shows how many you haven't read yet; new ones also pop up briefly at the bottom of the screen.
  3. The ? button shows help for the page you are on in a card over the page; Open in Help shows the full article.
  4. Your picture or initials at the top right open the account menu: Profile, Notification settings, Calendar feed, Privacy & data, Sign-in & security, Language, Appearance, Style and Sign out.

Install Pulse on your phone

  1. Open Pulse in your phone's browser. The Dashboard shows Install Pulse on your phone.
  2. Android: select Install and confirm.
  3. iPhone: tap the Share button in Safari, then Add to Home Screen.
  4. Open Pulse from the new icon and turn on notifications in Notification settings (account menu) if you want them on the phone.

Result: Pulse opens from your home screen like an app and can send notifications to your phone.

Permissions and limits

  • Pulse is invitation-only. You can't create an account by yourself – ask your band admin for an invitation.
  • What you see in the menu depends on your role in the band. For example, Finances needs the See all finances permission (Band Admin and Band Manager by default), and Settings needs Manage band settings (Band Admin by default). See Roles & permissions.
  • The search only finds events, songs and people that your role lets you see.

Examples

A dep's first day

Jana gets an invitation link in the band's chat. She opens it, signs in with her email, accepts, and sees the Dashboard. Under Needs attention she answers Available for next Saturday's gig, then completes her profile with Complete profile.

Playing in two bands

Petr plays in two bands. He uses the band switcher at the top of the menu to move between them. Pulse remembers the last band and opens it the next time he signs in.

Common mistakes

  • Signing in with a different email address than the invitation was sent to – the invitation is refused. Use the invited address.
  • Clicking an old sign-in link. Each link works only once and only for a short time – request a new one, or use the code from the newest email.
  • Looking for a section that isn't in your menu. Your role doesn't include it – ask your band admin if you need it.

Troubleshooting

"There's no account for this email" is shown.
Pulse is invitation-only. Open the invitation link first and select Sign in to accept – or ask your band admin for a new invitation.
After signing in I see "You're not in a band yet".
You haven't accepted an invitation yet, or it was for a different account. Open the invitation link again. You can also create your own band.
I don't see the install hint on my phone.
It appears only on phones, only until you install Pulse or hide it. On Android, install from the browser menu (Install app or Add to Home screen); on iPhone use Safari's Share button → Add to Home Screen.
